Privacy Policy

The Human Judgment Company, doing business as Quartz, is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. This policy covers tryquartz.ai, the workspace, public demos, waitlist, invitations, and related emails.

Your account: your name, email, Google sign-in details, account type, language, waitlist or invitation status, and your terms and email choices. Google handles sign-in; Quartz does not receive your Google password.

Your work: documents, revisions, AI questions and responses, uploaded files and images, shared content, feedback, and information you provide to support. Connected services may provide selected files, account identifiers, access tokens, search results, and other information within the permissions you authorize.

How Quartz is used: pages and features visited, browser and device details, timing, errors, model usage and costs, and network information used to keep the service secure. For reminders, we record when you last used Quartz, your email choices, and delivery results, including bounces and complaints. We measure whether people return to Quartz rather than whether they open an email.

We use this information to sign you in, manage the waitlist, save and share your work, generate AI responses, run the connections you choose, and help when something goes wrong. It also helps us keep Quartz reliable and meet legal obligations. Reminder emails use your email preference and recent activity, and never include your private document content.

Where a law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our agreement with you for core services, legitimate interests for proportionate security, reliability, support, and service improvement, legal obligations where applicable, and consent for optional marketing emails and optional browser analytics. You can withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. Contact us to object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To answer a question, Quartz sends the relevant question, conversation, document context, attachments, instructions, and tool results to the AI providers involved, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Web search shares search terms or requested links with the search provider or website. Please use material you have permission to share with these services.

When you connect Google Drive or another service, Quartz uses the permissions you grant to read or import selected material and perform the actions you request. MCP connections can involve third-party servers you choose. Those services receive information needed for their functions and operate under their own policies. You can disconnect them in Quartz and revoke access with the provider.

When memory features are enabled, Quartz may store and retrieve document context, briefs, and accepted edits locally or through Supermemory. Deleting a document initiates removal of its associated memory; external services and backups may take additional time to process deletion.

Quartz does not train its own foundation models on your work. The providers that process AI requests have their own terms covering how they use, retain, and, where applicable, train on information.

We use Railway for hosting and database infrastructure; Resend for email delivery; the AI providers described above for model requests; Google for sign-in and optional Drive access; PostHog for analytics and diagnostics; and Supermemory when hosted memory is enabled. Providers receive information relevant to the services they perform. We may replace providers as the product changes and will update this policy as appropriate.

If you share a document or chat, your selected recipients or people with the shared link can access the information exposed by that share. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect safety or rights, investigate abuse, or complete a transfer of the business with appropriate protections and notice. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Cookies and browser storage remember your sign-in, preferences, and access to demos or invitations. They also support security and help you pick up where you left off. These are needed for the features that use them.

Optional cookies help us understand how people use the signed-in workspace and where it could be better. They stay off on public pages and only run in the workspace after you agree. We use PostHog for usage analytics and session replays, which show interactions such as clicks and navigation. Replays are configured to hide form inputs, document text, and chat content. Change your choice anytime through Cookie settings in the footer or Settings. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track also keep these features off.

To run and troubleshoot Quartz, our servers also keep records such as account identifiers, AI requests and answers, tool activity, usage, errors, and timing. These records may include content you submit and are separate from optional browser cookies. You can contact us with questions or a deletion request.

We send emails about your waitlist place, invitations, account, shared work, and important service updates. You can also choose occasional ideas and reminders. Turn these off in Settings or unsubscribe from any reminder. We send up to three reminders between visits, spaced at least a week apart, with no more than three in 90 days. Coming back to Quartz pauses those reminders. We remember unsubscribe choices and delivery problems so we can respect your preferences.

We keep your account and work for as long as needed to provide Quartz. You can delete documents in the app or email us to delete your account. Public demos expire and their stored data is cleaned up periodically. Some logs, email and permission records, and backups may remain longer for security, support, legal requirements, or remembering unsubscribe choices. The timing depends on the record and provider, so backup removal may take additional time.

We use access controls and other safeguards to protect your information. Our servers and service providers process content to make Quartz work, so the service is not end-to-end encrypted. No service can guarantee complete security. If your work needs specific regulatory protections or agreements, please check with us before uploading it.

The Human Judgment Company is based in the United States. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries, where privacy laws may differ. Where required, transfers must use applicable safeguards, such as contractual protections. Contact us for information about a particular provider or transfer.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your information; limit or object to its use; withdraw permission; or appeal a decision about a request. Email mark@tryquartz.ai and we’ll help. We may need to confirm your identity, and we’ll respond within the time required by law and explain any limits. You can also contact your local data protection authority. Exercising these rights will not result in discriminatory treatment.

Some information can be corrected or exported in the app. Removing a connection or shared link does not remove copies already held by other recipients or providers. Requests concerning a separate provider’s account should also be directed to that provider.

Quartz is not directed to children under 13 or a higher minimum age required locally. If you believe a child has provided information without the required permission, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate.

We will update the effective date when this policy changes and provide notice of material changes through Quartz or email as required. The policy describes current practices; if the operator changes, the updated policy will identify the new operator.
